Ciprobid
- Broad-spectrum antimicrobial
drug of fluoroquinolone group with bactericidal action. Inhibits DNA gyrase and
inhibits the synthesis of bacterial DNA. Highly active against most
gram-negative bacteria: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus
influenzae, Shigella spp., Neisseria meningitidis, Salmonella spp.,Neisseria
gonorrhoeae.
It is
active against Staphylococcus spp. (including strains producing and not
producing penicillinase, methicillin-resistant strains), some strains of Enterococcus
spp., Legionella spp., Campylobacter spp., Mycoplasma spp., Chlamydia spp.,
Mycobacterium spp.
Ciprobid
is active against bacteria producing beta-lactamases.
Ureaplasma
urealyticum, Nocardia asteroides resistant to ciprofloxacin, Clostridium difficile.
The effect on Treponema pallidum is studied not enough.

Ciprobid
is a drug used to treat bacterial infections. It is a second-generation
fluoroquinolone antibacterial. It kills bacteria by interfering with the
enzymes that cause DNA to rewind after being copied, which stops DNA and
protein synthesis.
Ciprobid
is marketed worldwide, with over three hundred different brand names. In the
Canada and the UK, United States, it is sold as Ciloxan, Cipro XR, Cipro, Cipro
XL Ciproxin and, most recently, Proquin. In Mexico, it is available over the
counter and marketed under the names Ciprofloxacino or Ciproflox. In Ecuador,

Additionally, Ciprobid is available as a generic drug under a variety of
different brand names and is also available for limited use in veterinary
medicine.
Why it
is prescribed (Indications): This combination medication contains antibacterial
and antidiarrheal agents, prescribed for susceptible infections.
When it
is not to be taken (Contraindications): Contraindicated in patients with blood
dyscrasis and hypersensitivity.
What
are the possible side effects of ciprofloxacin (Cipro, Cipro XR, Proquin XR)?
Get
emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction:
difficult breathing; hives; swelling of your face, lips, throat or tongue.
Stop
using ciprofloxacin and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side
effect such as:
* severe dizziness, fast or pounding heartbeats, fainting ;
* sudden pain, snapping or popping sound, swelling, bruising, tenderness,
stiffness, or loss of movement in any of your joints;
* diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
* confusion, hallucinations, depression, unusual...
Dosage
& When it is to be taken : Adult: PO- As tab containing ciprofloxacin
(mg)/tinidazole (mg): 500/600, 250/300. Usually, one tablet twice daily for
5-10 days.
How it
should be taken: It comes as a tablet to take by mouth on an empty stomach.
Side Effects: Nausea, headache, vomiting, fatigue, abdominal pain, depression, dyspepsia, constipation, dry mouth, sometimes diarrhea, metallic taste, hives, redness and rashes.
